We should not overlook the positives in this tragedy.
Despite Libya being in a very early rebuilding stage after their country experienced complete and total collapse and turmoil from first a successful revolution, followed by a bloody civil war that is still experiencing its last gasps.
That context makes the defensive efforts of not only Libyan security forces, but ordinary civilians coming to the aid of Americans under attack all the more poignant. These people have already risked so much and lost so much, and they gave so much of themselves, inclluding their lives, in this crisis.
Equally poignant, and far more representative of the Libyans than the attack was the swift response. Moving swiftly, the government of Libya has four people already in custody, with more under surveillance and with more arrests anticipated. Despite the thinnness of their resources, they appear to be conducting this investigation with great care and thoroughness to bring all involved, directly and indirectly, to justice.
Equally poignant, from the ordinary every-day Libyans were the spontaneous mass outrpourings of support and commiseration for America.
We need to pay attention, not only from Libya, but from the LACK of participation by the majority of mainstream Muslims around the world, the Muslims who did not engage in the very small but volatile protests of our embassies and American businesses.
The poster in this picture is correct, the headline from the HuffPo is correct. We need to make the distinction between mainstream religion and politics, and those of political and religious extremists.

ReplyDeleteLoved the photos showing the truth in Libya. This was a planned 9/11 anniversary terrorist attack and the video reference was nothing more than the lame excuse segway to “Whip Up The Local Religious Nut Jobs” just as the Republican Party will find a non-issue to “Whip Up Our Own Home Grown Religious Nut Jobs.”
Bottom line, it was nothing more than a planned terrorist attack in a foreign country. The security is working well here in this country that the only plausible target is in a country where Chaos is the dominant norm.
Citizens today realize this as per yesterday’s “Wall Street Journal” note:
The President is up by 7 points in Ohio, 5 points in Virginia, and 5 points in Florida.
